Pantai Pangumbahan
Pangumbahan beach offers the gentle light sand and
lush greeneries. At the night, when the darkness covering this beautiful
beach, we can see the sea turtles. We can watch penyu hijau
(green turtle, chelonia mydas) digging the sand, laying their
eggs amid the sound of the waves, and back to the mysterious sea.
It's a wonderful experience to witness the process.
In Pangumbahan, we can also see tukik (little turtle) at
the place for hatching the eggs. Pangumbahan beach is a sea turte
preserve (about 115 hectares). (Other sites for turtle habitation:
Ciujungan, Cibulakan, Cilegon Matahyang, Cicebek, Cibatu-handap,
Citireum, and Cikepuh.) The peak season for laying eggs is between
August and March. A turtle can lay about 80 to more than 200 eggs.
But, from 1000 hatching eggs, it may be olny 2 can reach productive
age. So, we must help to protect and save the turtles! Do not consume
the turtles and their eggs. Do not pollute the sea ...
